The Waffle House, St Giles

The Waffle House, St Giles

This year marks an important milestone for The Waffle House: at home in a small, unassuming space on St Giles, it’s been serving waffles for birthdays, dates, anniversaries, and just-because treats for 40 years. Ask almost any Norwich native for their recommendations and it’ll feature on the list.

The restaurant’s menu allows you to be as healthy or as indulgent as you like, with a plethora of sweet and savoury options featuring everything from avocado to butterscotch sauce. Each year the choice seems to grow, with firm favourites, the one our parents were eating in the 80s, remaining but new flavours appearing alongside them. The waffles themselves are a local affair too, made up of organic flour, free range eggs, and locally produced milk, while the coffee and cordials are also sourced from the region. And if that’s not enough to keep you sweet, there’s a jug of maple syrup on every table – we may be guilty of having poured a spoonful to enjoy on its own.

Here’s to another 40 years!

Wish I’d known about this when we visited, Norwich in September.

Waffles remind me of being in Canada, they were breakfast for two weeks. 🙂
