Bullitt @ The Mash Tun, Charing Cross

When they left the Fat Cat a few years back, focusing instead on taking their buns on the road, Bullitt left a burger-shaped hole in our lives.

During their adventures, they’ve done numerous festivals across the UK, but the burgers have stayed every bit as excellent as they were last time we got our mitts on them – it was worth the wait.

It’s one of those menus that has you umming and ahhing and asking for just a couple more minutes to make a decision…a few times. It caters to every hunger level, starting at “The Truth”, a fairly plain burger, and escalating to “Ichor”, the double-everything stack that requires some inventive attack methods. A veggie option and available vegan-friendly tweaks mean it’s not just for the carnivores, too, although the quality beef is a big part of what makes the burgers so good.

In collaboration with London’s Five Points Brewery, they’re even serving up beer tasting menus that explore flavour pairings with beers and ciders.

It’s not just about the burgers, though: they’re also doing wood-fired Sunday and festive roasts, with the latter launching at the end of November and taking place from Thursday to Sunday. Think succulent local meats, an abundance, and, of course, Yorkshire puds.

With an emphasis on local, free-range produce and eco-friendly details, Bullitt really care about what they do. We’ll be making the most of them being in the city centre before they hop off to explore once again.

Please note Bullitt will only be at the Mash Tun until the end of 2018! Continue reading

Stoke Mill, Stoke Holy Cross

Technically, sitting 5 miles out of the city centre, Stoke Mill is just about out of the NorEats catchment area – but it’s just too good to leave off any respectable guide to restaurants in Norwich.

It’s one of those places you want to take all your out-of-town friends to. The restaurant offers fine dining served by friendly, attentive staff, but without the pretence or stuffiness that comes with many upmarket establishments. Continue reading

St Andrews Brew House, St Andrews St

Beer so local it’s brewed on site, British tapas, and vegetarian food options galore? Count us in.

This corner of Norwich has certainly improved since the days the site hosted Delaneys. The stretch from Grapes Hill all the way down to Elm Hill is fast becoming a foodie mecca, playing host to quirky cafes and the infamous Benedicts restaurant. Just up the road from the gin-distilling Ten Bells, and next to the home of Norwich’s beer festival, St Andrews Brew House, with more than 30 different types of ale, lager, and craft beer on offer, certainly fits in here. The NorEats Map

What can I say? The list of places to try in Norwich got too long – it spiralled out beyond just the old favourites, and the cafes and restaurants that have popped up over the last few years. This fine city has gone through a massive amount of change in recent years, having gained a plethora of coffee shops, posher restaurants, and, praise be to the food gods, ice cream shops. Norwich has so much to offer, a map was the only way forward. And so followed NorEats.

NorEats brings together the food and drink the fine city of Norwich has to offer, from coffee shops to gin joints, cafes to swanky restaurants.
