That sweet tooth is still in action! Today, one of the city’s cutest independent shops, and the home of that hot chocolate: Macarons & More. At the end of the Royal Arcade, M&M boasts, of course, a counter full of dainty macarons, with flavours changing with the seasons and animals popping up every now and then.
There was a time in Jarrold’s history when the deli was hidden in a dingy corner, a small selection of local pastries and cheeses obscured by shelving, when cookware displays sprawled across the basement.
That slightly sad counter is very much a thing of the past, thanks to a carefully planned refit that’s expanded the shop’s offering enormously and created a swanky wine bar that wouldn’t look out of place in a posh London department store.
If you use social media, you’ll know about Bread Source already. You’ll have seen the window display of viennoiserie; you’ll have imagined whiling away an afternoon at that big wooden table, watched over by artfully trailing plants. What can I say? The list of places to try in Norwich got too long – it spiralled out beyond just the old favourites, and the cafes and restaurants that have popped up over the last few years. This fine city has gone through a massive amount of change in recent years, having gained a plethora of coffee shops, posher restaurants, and, praise be to the food gods, ice cream shops. Norwich has so much to offer, a map was the only way forward. And so followed NorEats.
