Multi-award winning Redwell brewery has certainly been doing something right since its 2013 launch, having created a range of vegan-friendly beers and been handed the accolade for best can design at the Indie Beer Can Festival in 2016. Continue reading
Category: Shops & Local Produce
Norwich is full of innovative producers and boasts more small independent food shops and delis than you can get round without taking bags and bags of tempting bits and bobs home. Here’s a selection of some of the best.
Smokey Barn, King St
Another week, another kickass coffee place in Norwich. This time, we’re heading slightly away from the centre to King St, which has been home to Smokey Barn for a few years now. Continue reading
Macarons & More, Royal Arcade
That sweet tooth is still in action! Today, one of the city’s cutest independent shops, and the home of that hot chocolate: Macarons & More. At the end of the Royal Arcade, M&M boasts, of course, a counter full of dainty macarons, with flavours changing with the seasons and animals popping up every now and then.
Jarrold Deli & Wine Bar, London St
There was a time in Jarrold’s history when the deli was hidden in a dingy corner, a small selection of local pastries and cheeses obscured by shelving, when cookware displays sprawled across the basement.
That slightly sad counter is very much a thing of the past, thanks to a carefully planned refit that’s expanded the shop’s offering enormously and created a swanky wine bar that wouldn’t look out of place in a posh London department store.
Bread Source, Upper St Giles
If you use social media, you’ll know about Bread Source already. You’ll have seen the window display of viennoiserie; you’ll have imagined whiling away an afternoon at that big wooden table, watched over by artfully trailing plants. The bright, carefully curated interior is absolute catnip for Instagrammers – to the point that the staff don’t even glance in your direction as you square up your shot. Continue reading
The NorEats Map
What can I say? The list of places to try in Norwich got too long – it spiralled out beyond just the old favourites, and the cafes and restaurants that have popped up over the last few years. This fine city has gone through a massive amount of change in recent years, having gained a plethora of coffee shops, posher restaurants, and, praise be to the food gods, ice cream shops. Norwich has so much to offer, a map was the only way forward. And so followed NorEats.
NorEats brings together the food and drink the fine city of Norwich has to offer, from coffee shops to gin joints, cafes to swanky restaurants.
Timberhill Bakery, Timber Hill
It’d be easy to fall in love with Timberhill Bakery on the strength of those big windows, minimalist Scandi-style interior, and organic coffee alone: but none of that is what the bakery is really about. Continue reading
Strangers Coffee, Dove St & Pottergate
Tucked away in two locations in the Norwich Lanes, Strangers is serious about its coffee. The cafe and shop offer a rotating selection of beans throughout the year, depending on crop cycles in coffee-growing regions around the world. Continue reading
