Jarrold Deli & Wine Bar, London St

There was a time in Jarrold’s history when the deli was hidden in a dingy corner, a small selection of local pastries and cheeses obscured by shelving, when cookware displays sprawled across the basement.

That slightly sad counter is very much a thing of the past, thanks to a carefully planned refit that’s expanded the shop’s offering enormously and created a swanky wine bar that wouldn’t look out of place in a posh London department store.

When you’re done with the shopping part, the wine bar has wines and beers to go alongside meat and cheese boards. The deli counter itself is overflowing with meats, cheeses, pastries and salads, while the rest of the shop now boasts a wide chocolate selection, along with three walls dedicated to beers, wines, and spirits.

A love of local produce is evident in every area of the shop, from the plethora of East Anglian gins to the from-just-down-the-road pork pies, and although it’s especially great in the run-up to Christmas, it promises to be a foodie heaven all year round.

And we’re serious about that beer wall. It’s a thing of beauty.
